Thank you for leaving a review although you canceled your reservation and didn’t stay here. Let’s get the facts straight on this one. 1) Animals are only allowed in pet-friendly rooms on the first floor and never in the guest rooms which is why the rooms are always shut even when not occupied. 2) A dog had been in that room on two occasions in the past five years when the dog is a service dog and has to accompany the guest at all times and the pet-friendly rooms are occupied. 3)All of our bedding is washed between guests. 4) You originally and purposely booked the first floor pet-friendly room. 5) I moved you to a non-pet friendly room because the original room you booked was occupied by someone with a service dog that needed to stay one more day. 6) You wanted to cancel your reservation after using both the room and bathroom for some time, left the Inn, came back and asked to cancel and asked for a refund. 7) While I’m bound by my agreement with Expedia and by contract, you were not allowed to cancel once you checked in, but I graciously offered you a 50% refund pending Expedia’s agreement to allow the cancelation. Points to note: Our website mentions right on the front page that we are pet friendly and also have our own pets onsite. Expedia’s website also mentions that the room you booked is a pet-friendly room. You selected this room even though other rooms were available. We have thousands of guests who stay here that are allergic to animals, peanuts, feathers (we have down pillows, duvets, and featherbeds), tomatoes, wheat products, cleaning compounds, asshats and otters. While we would like to have guests stay elsewhere at times (yes, some guests are really, really, awful [post-pandemic issues?]), we welcome any and all with open arms (see prior review). So, your review begs the question “You got what you reserved so how is this our fault?” And while I did everything I could in my power to offset your error; I am good, but mind reading the stupid is not one of my strengths. I’ve always wondered what a review from Abe Lincoln would be like of Ford’s Theater. Probably something along the lines of 2-stars, was murdered there, would not recommend. So, for those of you who do read the fine print, let’s pay it forward and for the next 10 guests that book through Expedia after reading this review note “Abe Lincoln” on their reservation, I’ll gladly provide a 10% discount on your stay and no charge for a pet in a pet-friendly room.

Thank you! Not sure which room you were in, but I bought two new A/Cs to replace two older units. I did notice that a guest took it upon themself to "re-install" the A/C in one of the rooms - totally wrong - and ruined a couple of bath towels and soaked through the wallpaper [shaking my head]. In any case, if you read this, do reach out to me and let me know which unit it is so I can evaluate further.

Oh no! That’s not what we like to hear! We’re sorry you feel our place is terrible, although you never stayed here, as we weren’t able to secure your reservation when you wanted to. While it’s true that another guest extended their visit, and this clearly caused you some emotional despair; it can happen at any lodging establishment when two different folks are attempting to book a room at the same time. In this case, a current guest made a request during breakfast to extend their stay another day and somewhere between the time of that request and me updating my reservation system, your online booking through Hotels.com came in. Since the other guest requested that room first, it is my duty as innkeeper to honor that reservation. If another room was available (it wasn’t), then I would have offered you that room as an alternative. I pride myself with being principal and morally centered and my actions during this situation certainly reflect these values. Hence, I immediately voided your transaction to prevent you from being charged and notified Expedia to contact you regarding this as the phone number and email provided on your reservation were both invalid. I’m pretty sure our place isn’t terrible….I wouldn’t still be working here if it was. Here are some of the notes written in our guestbook from the past week: “Thank you so much for the hospitality, you, and the lovely pets were wonderful. The breakfast was wonderful and the room amazing”, “We were searching last-minute for a place to stay during our unexpected trip. We are so happy we discovered your Bed & Breakfast here. We felt lucky & blessed to receive your amazing hospitality and stories.”, “Absolutely loved it here. So homey and cozy. The breakfast was delicious, some of the best ever!”, “We are so happy we chose to stay here while attending our grandson’s graduation. What a lovely town and a great place to lay our heads. The breakfasts are so yummy. We will definitely be back when we visit family.” So thanks again for taking the time to review your stay that you never experienced. I hope someday you can come back to our terrible B & B and see what all the hoopla is about! P.S.....my ricotta pancakes rock!

Thank you for sharing your experience both positive and constructive. I apologize our online partners often fail us with accurate descriptions of our properties. We are a 240 year old building that I have painstakingly renovated to keep as original as possible. Lower ceilings were predominant in pre-civil war era homes and were built to keep the building cool in summer and warmer in winter where the only source of heat was often the fireplace. The thumb-latch handles are also original to the building which dates back to 1790. While I appreciate that I can’t get it right all the time, I do strive to make things correct for all our guests. The ceilings in that particular room are 6’ 9”. While we’ve had tall guests in the 6’ 4” to 6’ 6” range, if I had known you had specific height restrictions, I would have redirected you to a hotel better suited to fulfill your needs. The bathroom specifically has a shower designed for mobility impaired guests. Unfortunately, Expedia has no way to present this information on their site and I would highly recommend anyone considering a reservation to review our Inn’s website for factual information and additional room/facility information. I’m also a little confused because you specifically requested this room: “Special Request: The two twin beds are a requirement (we're a father and son), so if that's not possible, please let me know, so we can make other arrangements. Thank you!” And then comment as such: “The room was very small, with extremely low ceilings. I found it difficult, as an adult, to sleep comfortably on a twin sized bed.” Our Inn is pet-friendly and I’m glad you enjoyed Tara’s company. She belongs to a guest and is here quite often.
