This was a ground floor apartment, equipped for two people. The room is know for being especially quiet, the guest is making assumptions seeing roadworks on the main road that there would be noise but there is none. The highway trucks were parked in the car park as their staff are occupying self catering cottages at the property and do not cause nuisance or disturbance. The road had a diversion for 12 weekends, ending at the end of July, a detour was in place and access no problem for guests.

Thank you for your review. I was on holiday for your stay and we had been closed the night before. Your check in was the first on reopening, well before our check in time but my housekeeper came in 2 hrs early as you wanted to arrive sooner. I did not charge our 25 early check in fee as a complimentary gesture. Our heating was reduced until nearer our usual check in time. I also explained that 6 am breakfast was not possible but would arrange a simple breakfast tray to have in your room the night before. This was misunderstood by my staff member who then got up early to serve breakfast instead. Some internal doors are locked as part of our EXTERNAL security, not trust if guests, as Moresby hall is our family home. Like many establishments our evening dining is under review due to costs and staffing. There are no building works, the road is under repair. The gate is wide enough for a transit can / ambulance so I’m not sure about your concerns there. I’m sorry you didn’t find your stay satisfactory.

We’re mystified. This guest was booked by a third party on the day or arrival, checked in around 9 pm and left straight after early breakfast. A standard double, lower cost described as compact room. I personally asked if all was ok and he said yes. It’s a shame when a negative is posted without explanation at the time or within the review. Luckily we get numerous repeat guests but I contacted this visitor to discuss and he didn’t return my call. It would be good to hear what issues he had if any.

I’m sorry the bed did not meet your expectations, as you’ll see from other reviews it’s one of the things that people are usually very complimentary about. We do have a laundry service which all staff do in our own on-site laundry, but this is a 24 hour service so not an option for one night stays. You arrived after 9 pm so it wasn’t an option. We look forward to welcoming you on a future occasion.

Regrettably, due to the storms and the very cold weather the room appeared to be not as warm as usual. However we do have additional heaters, whenever guests require them. Glad all was satisfactory and you were comfortable. Sorry, not sure what is meant by “parking a bit tight” as we have plenty of space to park and use the plug in electric car and Tesla chargers. We hope to welcome you on a future occasion. Jane

The first couple of sentences on the hotels.com page describe Moresby Hall as “Whitehaven upscale guesthouse with restaurant”. Further down the page our check in time is given at 4 pm. We also email guests prior to arrival to advise the arrival time for new check ins is after 4 pm. The sign at our door states check in is 4 pm. This is because we are a family run 5 star gold award country guesthouse and try to have two hours off each day before we welcome new guests for their evening. As it was during this busy Bank Holiday your room was not yet ready after a full change over. You say no alternative was offered, which is true as our bar staff would only be on duty at 4 pm. If you have clients for an appointment at your place of work do you drop everything if they turn up nearly two hours earlier? You booked a standard double room for three adults at £140 including breakfast - it’s the first time anyone has been disparaging about the comfort and value of that room. If cutlery was missing we would have brought it for you if you had advised. It should however have been replaced prior to your arrival when the room was serviced. Whitehaven is a harbour town with 250 listed buildings & marina etc. It’s not a bucket and spade seaside town but offers a nice selection of bars, places to eat and some historical interest for tourists. I’m sorry you were disappointed but you should have read the information which is amply provided to assist guests prior to arrival.
