Fawlty Towers by the Lake – don’t stay in this dump
LONG STORY SHORT: This so-called resort provided a substandard room, didn’t fix the issues, and lied to us about the modest concession they had initially agreed to as an apology. Dishonest people and overpriced, poorly maintained rooms. Don’t stay there!
LONG STORY LONG: Having traveled a bit, we are used to different standards in various regions and countries — we understand that in Ethiopia, hotels and services may have issues we aren’t used to, and we are generally happy to roll with it and not get bothered.
However, after our previous mid-range hotel in Harar had no running water, we were looking forward to our several-day stay at the Lewi Resort in Hawassa, which billed itself as a four-star establishment. How sadly disappointed we were.
The room we paid for ($132 per night) didn’t have a proper shower (just a trickle), a working telephone (though a disconnected one was “helpfully” sitting on the desk in the room??! Why??), and critically, there was no air conditioning — one of the reasons we booked the Lewi in the first place — which was falsely advertised both on their website and on Expedia.
For a hotel in a lower price bracket, we likely wouldn’t have made a big deal about these issues, but for a so-called “four-star” resort at this price point, not having a functioning room, particularly the lack of air conditioning, was frustrating. We raised these concerns checking in on our 1st day. - see Google reviews
