“I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

“Great stay for reasonable rate! Our room was really nice for our family of 5. It was a unique layout with two queens and an extra bedroom with an additional queen bed. The extra room was so nice! The breakfast was great with many options. Nice pool area and very clean overall. The staff was wonderful and called us promptly when we left an item in the room after checking out and we were able to pick it up. We would definitely stay here again. ”

“Found these cottages by chance & we’re so grateful. It seemed that EVERY other place was booked; required multiple night stays, or would not allow pets. Our request was granted promptly thru VRBO, as usual. Admittedly, it was strange not having a hotel clerk to admit us, but we were used to it w VRBO. We did see two different folk, leave after being baffled (?) by QR code contact/ admittance. The little Cabin was immaculate. Lake was too windy to enjoy & we checked into late to fire up the...

“Everything was great, the toilet needs to be replaced...if youre a male over 6' like me, youre squatting low to sit, and your junk goes straight into the water...not very pleasant lol...other than that, it was amazing.”
