Colchester is a short drive where you will find plenty of shops and eateries, cinema, the famous castle and museums and the beautiful castle park that hosts outdoor events in the summer. A visit to Colchester Zoo is a must. If you fancy a day at the coast then pop along to Mersea Island, a peaceful seaside town famous for its Oysters. August is the month of the Mersea Regatta. Sudbury, an ancient market town is worth a visit as is the Gainsborough museum. The famous Dedham Vale is prefect for walking or take out a rowing boat with a picnic. Jump on a train to London to see a show or do some retail therapy.
