Our overall experience at Gora Kadan was wonderful and came very close to a perfect 5/5. The cleanliness of the facilities, thoughtfully curated amenities, stunning views, and the warmth and professionalism of the staff reflected a high level of care and intention. It was clear that great thought had gone into nearly every part of the experience. The only reason this fell short of a perfect score was the attention to detail during meal service. While the food itself was outstanding and among the best we had on our trip, both dinner and breakfast lacked sufficient explanation, with breakfast being noticeably worse. We had mentioned that this was our first time experiencing a traditional Japanese meal like this, so we had no prior knowledge going in.
Despite this, little time was spent explaining what the dishes were, their significance, or how they were traditionally eaten. Many breakfast items were unfamiliar, leaving us guessing or searching online for clarity. This was disappointing given the care evident elsewhere at Gora Kadan. Learning later that our friends received detailed explanations from their servers made our experience feel subpar by comparison. Had it not been for the stark contrast in service we received compared to our friends, this wouldve been a flawless once in a life time experience. With more consistency with meal service, this exceptional place would easily reach perfection - unfortunately not the case for us.
