Monument on Tanlawhill Rig This tower, overlooking the Black Esk river and Castle O'er Forest, is marked on the O.S. map as a monument. It is cylindrical in shape and constructed of granite blocks with a splayed 360 degree glazed viewing screen, topped with a conical copper roof. There is a tiled walkway around the tower enclosed in a metal fence. The external wall contains a timber door and 3 narrow boarded-up windows.

“We loved our stay at The Yair. We booked it for its proximity to the river Tweed for fly fishing and found that the river runs past the property; complete with fishing hut and a gillie! The property’s owner was great in his communication and was available for anything we needed. It was fascinating to learn from him about the history of the property. Our cottage was beautiful and the hot tub was a nice addition. We would stay here again, independent of fishing.”
