âGreeted by young lady who was very professional and polite with just the right amount of interest before showing me the room, which was clean and spacious with a nice view out of the bay window onto the garden. Breakfast options were available, quality and quantity were very good. Thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay.â

Carol the owner had messaged me earlier in the day with directions which was a nice welcome. She had also given us a lovely recommendation for somewhere to eat that evening. âWe loved our stay at the Ancient Gatehouse. The room was lovely and looked out over the green in front of the Wells Cathedral. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return.â
