Plum Island Lighthouse protects the delta of the Merrimack River, and was commissioned for the first time in 1788 with a lantern that burned whale oil. Its current form dates from the year 1898. In 1927 it began to work with electricity and was automated in 1952. As you can see the light it emits is green.
The lighthouse's surroundings are always accessible and the structure itself is open some days a year. There is a big public parking lot just crossing the street from the lighthouse.

“This place is awesome. What a gem to have for a place to stay in Salem. The owners were VERY responsive and informative in all communications. The property was clean and accommodating. Literally everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. We came in December and still walked everywhere because it was so close.
