âThis is a very well renovated B&B with nice amenities like a smart TV, kettle for tea and coffee, and a super comfortable bed. The entrance to the hotel and rooms is controlled by an electronic code. There is a modest continental breakfast on offer with the option for boiled eggs and a sausage or bacon sandwich. âMy husband and I are Swedes in our mid twenties, and we went to Portsmouth for a weekend getaway. Next time we go to Portsmouth, we will definitely stay at The Clarence again. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was very nice, and being Swedes we really care about the breakfast quality. Try the salmon egg muffin, you won't be disappointed!â
âRoom was clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast and owners were very helpful in finding the best way to the port for us. Near to the beach and pier. Excellent overnight stay and will use again â
âRoom was not your bog standard decor but was unique, bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large with an excrllet shower.
The staff were polite and would acknowledge you even if you were just passing.
Kim who was on reception when we arrived was a standard bearer for the hotel group, she was very welcoming and went above and beyond when we required some direction assistance.â
âThe bed in my first room was dreadful, I found several hairs in the sheets and comfortable as sleeping on the floor. In addition, the hot water did not work in the shower - I felt kind of ripped off - better standard should be expected even though it is an English hotel. After complaining a couple of times they moved me to the family suite which had an descent bed and hot water, which saved my week. The receptionists were always friendly despite my unhappy mood after my first night.â
âIf you are interested in the Victory or the Mary Rose it is right across the street. Super great. Parking down the street was easy but prefer not to have to do it. But if you have to remote park, it wasn't a big deal. It was pretty easy.â
