September 2016 Schiestlhaus, Hochschwab, Styria, Austria Morning view south from Hochschwab summit (alt. 2.227 meters) in the middle of Hochschwab mountain range. It is the most northern part of Alps which rises over 2.000 meters of altitude. There are basically no lifts in the Hochschwab, so you can enjoy it in its natural state. In September the weather is quite stable (although quite windy and freezing in the morning in the top parts) and only few tourists which get such rewarding views for the pain of hiking it by own feet. There is nice mountain hut called Schiestlhaus only 70 alt. meters below the Hochschwab summit, so you can get to the top both for the sunset or sunrise.

June 2010 Hochschwab, Styria, Austria View south from Hochschwab summit (2.277 m) towards the Trawiestal valley (some 1.000 meter bellow). The opposite wall is called Gschirrmauer and the meadow is Hinterwiesen with Karlhochkogel (2.096 m).
September 2016 Hochschwab range, Styria Austria This is the typical view you get when hiking on top of Hochschwab mountain range in early autumn. Hilly plateau with green to yellow grass and limestone walls and peaks. The picture was taken near the Rauchsattel pass and the view is towards He peaks of Zagelkogel (alt. 2.255 m, on the left) and Stangenwand (2.157 m, peaking on the right).
September 2016 western part of Hochschwab, Steiermark, Austria When descending from the main Hochschwab plateau towards Sackwiesenalm you discover this green panorama with range of Eisenerzer Griessmauer (2.034 alt. metres, on the left) and Frauenmauer (1.827 m, on the right). Also on the right there is the green meadow of Sonnschienalm (literally the meadow of sunrays) which is placed on the lower plateau of 1.500 m altitude. Plenty of scrub pines everywhere. In September you can count on quite stable weather and less tourists, party due to the end of season and partly due to the relative remoteness of the area (no lifts and only few small villages). Anyway a place to recommend.

Rent och fint. Restaurangen krävde reservation i förväg även om det var långt ifrån fullt. Maten som serverades var medioker. Fri tillgång till stort poolområde. Spa och bastu endast för vuxna, nakenavdelning.

Eisenerz, aussi cool qu’étonnante et intéressante!
Appartement très confortable et agréable. Seul inconvénient le passage du camion poubelles et du camion balais sous la fenêtre de la chambre à coucher entre 6 et 7 heures du matin! Région spéciale mais intéressante à cause de l’immense carrière de fer. Un passé historique à découvrir de manière ludique ...

September 2016 Seewiesen, Hochschwab, Steiermark, Austria This is the view from Afflenzer Staritzen towards Seewiesen village and Seegraben valley. Afflenzer Staritzen range is part of the Hochschwab range in Austria and rise up to 2.000 m altitude. Seewiesen is a tiny village (alt. 974 meters) on the east end of Hochschwab and it is an ideal starting or ending point for hiking in the Hochschwab mountains.
