Ditch the hotel break and check in instead to this luxurious modern apartment in the centre of Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast superstar which attracts tourists from early spring to the end of autumn. A springboard for Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as the pretty villages that punctuate the peninsula’s southern coast, the town is home to historic sites, cool beaches and some great gastronomy.

At Casa Apreda, you can fully enjoy the independence of staying in your own apartment. Located on the first floor via a flight of around 20 stairs, the 45-m² home is less than 200 m from bustling Piazza Tasso’s shops, bars and restaurants, and around 550 m from the beach. After a packed day of sightseeing, return to this spacious and inviting home to sink back into the comfy sofa (converts into a double sofa bed) in the elegantly styled living room. The open-plan room includes a gleaming contemporary kitchen, equipped with everything you could need for preparing meals during your stay at Casa Apreda, and a dining table for four.

Situated off the living room, the utility room has a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

• There are two local beaches to choose from – sandy Marina Grande Sorrento (550 m) or pebbly Marina Piccola Sorrento (1 km). Alternatively, get slightly more off-the-beaten track in locations such as Marina del Cantone on the southwest tip of the peninsula.

• Explore the historic centre of Sorrento, including the 15th-century Duomo and the Museo Correale di Terranova.

• Enjoy a day out - catch the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii or Herculaneum from the train station (800 m) or hop on a ferry from the port to Capri.

• If you want to avoid the stress of navigating the Amalfi Coast’s notorious hairpin bends, regular buses depart from the bus terminal (800 m) to Amalfi and Positano.

• Naples Capodichino International Airport – 52 km.

Need-to-Know

• Please be aware that there is no lift to the apartment (approximately 20 stairs).

• Enjoy going car free. If you do have a car with you, you can park in a public car park (pay locally).

• Sorrento is busy during July and August. As it boasts one of the Med’s longest tourist seasons, it’s worth thinking about visiting in spring or early summer.

• You’ll have everything at your fingertips in terms of local restaurants and food shops. When you want to dine out away from the crowds, head for one of the family-run seafood tavernas in the nearby port.

Lovely place and owners

The owners of the apartment have a meats and cheeses shop downstairs that is amazing and they are so kind. The space was nice but we lost hot water one morning. The rental company was responsive and got it fixed midday. Also it’s very very loud in the morning, trucks and early morning work happening downstairs. Besides that, location is great!
