“The hotel is situated in a residential area close to the seafront and within walking distance to good restaurants and pubs. The rooms are tight for two people with luggage and there are no lifts. There are a few properties associated with the hotel so I can only comment on the one beside the cabin garden restaurant that is part of the hotel and where we were located. “My husband and I are Swedes in our mid twenties, and we went to Portsmouth for a weekend getaway. Next time we go to Portsmouth, we will definitely stay at The Clarence again. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was very nice, and being Swedes we really care about the breakfast quality. Try the salmon egg muffin, you won't be disappointed!”

“The room was clean, and a great location in Southsea. A few small issues: the TV stopped working on our last morning, the bath had not been used and the water ran yellow, but the shower was fine. A cloth to do the washing up would have been of use. Overall the room was a great base for our weekend away.”

“The property is situated in a great part of Southsea, you can get to the beach relatively quickly and there are plenty of attractions around. The property itself is in need of a spruce up and a thorough deep clean, it feels a bit tired throughout. Our children were wearing light coloured socks and due to the hard floors not being cleaned properly, they were all filthy when we left. For a property that sleeps 10, there is only 1 bathroom which was surprising, especially if everyone is trying...

“Considering the price, we had high hopes for our stay at this house, but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. Upon arrival, we found the property was not very clean. There was urine left in the upstairs toilet, the downstairs bathroom was dusty with hair around the toilet, and the bath mat had been folded up while still wet.
