Known for its refined luxury and impeccable service, the Shangri-La name has always set a high standard. Unfortunately, my recent experience at Shangri-La Yanuca Island in Fiji was nothing short of a catastrophe.
From the moment I arrived, it was evident that this property is in a state of severe decline. The hotelâs appearance was tired and run-down, lacking the elegance and attention to detail that one expects from a five-star establishment. The once-stunning facilities now appear dilapidated and neglectedâa far cry from the sparkling image of luxury that the Shangri-La brand is renowned for.
In its desperation to fill its hotel rooms, the property now offers an "all you can eat and drink" concept, resulting in both the pools and restaurants being overrun by rowdy and unruly alcohol-impaired Australian families. This shift in focus further erodes the refined atmosphere once synonymous with the Shangri-La brand.
It is said that 'birds of a feather flock together' unless you want to mix with this type of holliday then better avoid this place."
