Fabulous stay
We throughly enjoyed staying at the art shack. Great, funky house. Really suited us.

This is not for everyone
This place is different and we expect that. Whilst we knew the house was quite open with lots of air flow we didn't expect that there would be literally open to the elements with no fly screens to stop the bugs, insects and even frogs coming inside. We were covered in mozzie bites by the time we left! You can tell the place is designed by an architect as it is not functional or practical for living, example being the stairs do not have a landing and literally end at the door which means you have to lean over to open the sliding door, there are no draws in the kitchen so the cutlery is on a table and the cupboards are so high you can barely reach the cups in them, the lighting creates a mood but you can't see what you are doing while cooking. Toilets are accessed on the outside of the building, not inside. Would suggest a small step stool so people can reach items in cupboards and decent knife in the kitchen wouldn't go a stray. The place is quirky and I get the charm, but it is not for everyone!

Terrible
Not suitable (safe) for elderly or kids. Weird design, dusty, noisy (trains going all night, hooting at 1am). Inside shower difficult to get into, outside shower too cold at this time of the year. Both toilets outside??? Bugs everywhere, some windows not sealed, no window coverings, no privacy. On a positive note - we loved the choice of books and the record player.

Thanks for your review Heather. Unfortunately the Art Shack is not for everyone. We recommend that reading all notes before you stay and to get in touch if you are unsure is the way to go. It is not our intention to offend, it is a Shack to enable friendships and good times in the Toodyay area. Paul & Felicity

Intriguing house.
Loved my stay. House was so different. Fires were essential as it was so cold. We all got involved in keeping the fires going. A team effort. Close to the town and the river. The dogs loved wandering down to the river and swimming.

Rooms with a View
Great place to stay with excellent use of design to accentuate the beautiful setting of the house. Stacks of room and great ability to separate activities for multiple guests. Will definitely return to this one.

Wonderfully different !!
This eclectic arty house was just the ticket for us. Lived in too many ‘heritage’ houses to know we wanted something different for our stay in the Avon Valley. Exciting to explore all the nooks and crannies of this eccentric property. It was a hot weekend and the airflow through the open plan spaces was perfect. Loved looking through the extensive LP collection. The massive fridge is awesome. Every appliance including coffee machine and grinder was most welcome. Highly recommend this property for artistic and creative types.

Loved this quirky, modern house in great location!
Paul's place in Toodyay is novel - unlike anywhere we have stayed before but we loved it. A tad chilly as it was winter but plenty of fire's and heaters - would be amazing to go back in summer! Great location and has everything you need.

Quirky, cosy, open living
Once we negotiated the unexpected entrance (front door opens onto steps - just pull it all the way across, and in you go), first impressions were excellent. It's a creative space, filled with interesting bits and bobs, and nooks that welcome you to lie down and read, or just gaze at the trees. We loved playing the records, and enjoyed the challenge of lighting our own fires. There are lovely walks to be had right behind the property. Views are wonderful, especially from the central living area, with its massive glass doors that open to create a gorgeous, open space. The quiet and the lack of light pollution make for a good sleep, and excellent stargazing. Neighbouring properties do overlook, and there aren't curtains or blinds on certain crucial windows, so you need to muster your inner bohemian before showering. Perhaps you could hang a sarong if you are shy!? Paul answered all our questions and looked after us well in the lead-up to our holiday. I love what you are doing with the property, Paul; thank you for sharing it.
