Boardwalk through the Bog of Tregaron, Ceredigion This excellent boardwalk allows access well into the bog with many good places to stop and observe the wildlife and vegetation of this site. Cors Caron is a raised bog system. The bog covers more than 800 acres (325 hectares). It is 6km in length and provides a habitat for a wide range of wildlife and plants. The bog itself was formed 12,000 years ago when the last of the Ice Age glaciers melted away. A large shallow lake was left, which very gradually filled with sediments and vegetation, forming peat and later, acid peat. For centuries, local people would go and cut this peat from the bog to burn on the hearth. In 1955, Cors Caron was declared a National Nature Reserve in order to preserve this increasingly scarce land form. In 1993, Cors Caron was placed on a list of wetland sites of international importance under the terms of the Ramser Convention. The bog is now managed by the Countryside Council for Wales. “Our family of four (2 boys aged 5 and 10) stayed for a week and enjoyed the perfect break. We were seeing family nearby and found the location perfect. We all loved the hot tub and Mike and Carol were amazingly friendly and attentive. “Lynda's accomodation is designed for both form and function. There's enough seating area outside for every type of weather. When it's sunny you can sit in front of the house or lie in the grass, when there's rain you can huddle inside or sit under the canopy. We had some trouble finding the accomodation, so make sure you double check the address beforehand, but Lynda was a dear guiding us there and was always available for questions during the stay.
