A world of subterranean wonders, a milestone in geological discoveries, Luray caverns, is a wonderful weekend getaway for those who are living near DC or Virginia. It is around 2 hours (or more) drive from washington DC.
This is a picture of the "Dream Lake", a spring of water which has a mirror-like appearance. Stalactites are reflected in the water making them appear to be stalagmites. This gives an illusion that the lake is deeper. The lake is connected to a spring that continues deeper into the caverns.
All in all, it was my first time exploring caverns. It was a fun filled day, learning the stories of the cavern.

Tips:
1) It is very crowded on weekends and holidays. If you want to enjoy peaceful, slow paced, less crowded tour of the caverns, go on weekdays.
2) If you visit the caverns, look for these things-
Saracen's tent - scarves and shawls of translucent calcite, falling in graceful folds, fringed with a thousand patterns, and so thin that a candle light can reveal the structure within!
The fried eggs formation - yes, it looks like fried eggs ;)
The Great Stalacpipe Organ - An actual organ which plays music- sounds of Stalactites! DO NOT miss this one!

“Overall the place was beyond great from every aspect to me. Everything inside the room was new and looked great only issue was no shower curtain but wasn’t a deal breaker. Me and my nephew stayed there over the weekend to do atv trails in the town of Gilbert WV. Was a blast will definitely go back. “Room was clean and well stocked. There is a fridge and microwave which I couldn't tell from the listing, and was nice to have! Nice location close to Matewan where our event was located. Quiet area and lots of parking which was great since we had two cars. My only "complaint" was too many plug in air fresheners, but that's a personal preference that I won't hold against them :) I just unplugged them during our stay so I didn't get a migraine. ”

“It was a perfect weekend. The house is great for large groups, the bedrooms are all spaced out and there is so many bathrooms, that everyone had privacy. The decor is very eclectic and interesting, made me wonder about the travel stories that went with them. My favorite was hands down the master bathroom. A larger grill would be good as well as all the pieces to the checkers and chess sets. Convenient to wineries/breweries. Ducard is our favorite. We would definitely return!”

“It was ok power went out for hours had to go out to eat and see and house got cold then couldnt adjust heat to compensate for being off for hours which meant we had to browse at stores instead of being at house. Finally bought flash lights and wood for outside fire but then neighbor call police even though we had it in firepit with spark arrester on it so alot of hickups last day and night. Asked for check out from 10am to 12 or 2 seems we were out half day and night never got back to us on it.”

"Vi checkade in på kvällen, då kändes hotellet lite tveksamt. Ingen personal hade arbetskläder på sig och informationen vi fick var minimal. Men dagen därpå fick vi en bättre bild av hotellet och allt kändes bra. Typisk Best Western frukost som var väldigt bra. Fanns olika varma rätter varje dag. Våfflor, frukt, bröd, flingor. Poolen vsr fantastisk! Den var ren och det fanns alltid lediga solstolar. Enda negativa är att poolen öppnar kl 12 på dagen. Rummet med king säng och bäddasoffa bar hyfsat rymligt. Bra kyl med frysfack. Parkering precis utanför rummet. Kändes som ett säkert område och relativt tyst. Många affärer och restauranger i närheten."
