A great venue but could have been perfect.
There’s plenty of space at Rascal wood in a lovely secluded quiet location. The owner is very friendly and helpful.
There’s a well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge (although not enough space for everyone to sit), large dining room/table and large bedrooms and bathrooms.
There are a few issues with the property which can easily be rectified and I hope the owner looks at this and does so in the near future to make other stays perfect.
Most of us found the mattresses to be past there best so replacing these would have led to a better nights sleep.
Cleanliness was overall very good however we found the oven to be full of grease which wasn’t a great start to cooking. One oven didn’t get very hot either. The kitchen floor was quite dirty. I suspect the type of flooring made it difficult to clean, so bring slippers or flip flops. There were also lots of dirty chipped mugs. Also too many signs (some next to each other repeating each other). This has been mentioned in another review but not rectified.
The showers were average. One shower didn’t have a workable temperature control so was quite hot but bearable. However when someone else used a shower or bath the other showers were reduced to a dribble or stopped altogether.
The washing machine (and stopcock!) were in an external locked plant room so we had to phone the owner to gain access. The bbq was also locked away.
Externally there was lovely space, with well looked after lawns etc. However the garden furniture was very poor and some of it dangerous, with some of it falling apart, and dirty. Replacement furniture required! We just used 2 chairs so couldn’t eat outside in the sunshine. No alfresco dining....
The charcoal bbq was functional but we had to be careful moving it as it was falling apart.
The games room was basic, with old equipment, but a good space for the kids to escape if they wanted to.
However we did enjoy our stay but to come back we’d definitely expect several improvements.
