Vicinity: Constantia itself is one of the poshest parts of Cape Town. The lovely landscape makes you forget that you are in the immediate vicinity of a big city. The villas are surrounded by park-like gardens, some also have paddocks and vineyards. On the Constantia Valley Wine Route, you can get to know the famous wineries in the green valley of Constantia. Groot Constantia was founded in 1685 and given to the first governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, as an experimental farm for agricultural products, who mainly developed viticulture here and made Constantia wine world-famous. In 1925 the Cape Dutch mansion burned down completely. After its reconstruction, it now houses a museum that gives an insight into the life of the first Cape settlers.
