Studio Apartment at The Shire - Cape Cod

Located in Falmouth, MA, The Shire is a charming 1960s Cape house surrounded by trees and mature plantings. It has a unique character, with interesting nooks & crannies. Outside, there is always something in bloom. Located on a quiet street, it’s a 5-minute drive to the beach or a 20-minute bike ride.

Wake up in the morning to the sound of birds, relax with a cuppa on your newly updated back deck, check in with work with high speed internet. For remote work stays, a home office setup can be provided.

The Space

The studio, affectionately named The Cupboard Atop the Stairs (any Harry Potter fans?), is its own private space. It contains a B&B Italia queen bed with luxury bedding, kitchenette, fold out lighted desk, large updated bath, and hi-speed WiFi.

The studio is perfect for singles or couples, and is pet friendly. Can also accommodate a child. Portable crib available upon request.

Guest Access

Guests can access the entire outside space which includes your own deck (215 sqft) a large fenced yard, outdoor shower, brick patio with seating and fire pit. The deck is exclusively yours; the yard is a shared space. On occasion, you might spot someone out there gardening. Guests may also access the washer/dryer in the garage, and may store bikes, kayaks or other recreation equipment on the property.

We respect your privacy and will interact with you as you desire. We live here year round and are happy to share recommendations on local places of interest.

Other Details

To customize your stay, please let us know your preference on our 100% cotton luxury bedding (sateen, linen or percale), and your favorite flavor of Girl Scout cookies (seasonal).

This is a family home with an art studio, so you may see some personal items about, or a curious cat through a window. Everything inside your accommodations and in the outside space is available for your use. And if you need anything additional, just ask! There’s enough parking for several cars.

We are pet friendly and can welcome one dog. Reach out with details about your pet or any questions before booking. A small dog (up to 40lbs) would be most comfortable in the space.

Laura was such an amazing host! So friendly and so accommodating. She stocked the house up with everything we need and more (snacks, and fresh diet cokes in the fridge!!) she even got a brand new grill and it worked so well. We had our 52 pound dog with us and the yard was PERFECT for him. He ran around and had so much space! He slept in the room with us no problem, but we had him out a lot on walks and stuff too. The bed was so comfortable and the AC worked so well. We would 10000% stay here again!!

Family visit

Quiet, clean, had everything we needed in this very cute studio. Space for the crib and large bath. Plenty of storage , a/c was much needed and appreciated. Cute outdoor space as well. Hosts very nice and thought of everything.

Comfortable & perfect location

Loved our stay at this location. The apartment was adorable and so very comfortable. Our host, Laura, thought of every convenience. The apartment was thoughtfully stocked with snacks, waters, coffee, tea, cream and sugar. The apartment design, maximized space while maintaining charm. We enjoyed a peaceful deck, set in a lovely garden. Proximity to the center of town, beaches and ferries, made for a lovely, relaxing weekend. Thank you Laura!

Excellent stay

My husband Leo booked a 3 night stay at the Cupboard for me.It was a great stay. My name is Christine and I recently lost my dog. I needed a place to go to get away that was peaceful and serene. This was the perfect place. It was immaculate, cozy, private and safe and the most comfortable bed. It has everything you need there and I was able to relax and grieve when I had to. Laura was outstanding and very friendly. I spent a little time with her outside near the gardens. It was great and I would definitely go back. I 100% recommend this property!!

Weekend Getaway

The Cupboard Atop the Stairs is a delightful space! Perfect for a weekend away. Laura was extremely helpful, making room in her garage for our bikes as it was pouring when we arrived on the Cape. Despite the rain, Falmouth offered plenty to keep us busy and our accomodations were cozy. A well stocked kitchenette allowed for coffee in bed in the morning:)

Cozy Weekend Get Away

Laura was an incredible host - her attention to detail and kindness is unmatched. She was great with communication and always quick to respond. The space itself is beautiful, lots of natural light and very Cape like finishes. The private back deck was our favorite place to relax during our weekend stay.

Great accomodations offering everything we needed. Quiet neighborhood, neat and clean rooms, thoughtful amenities. We originally booked for two weeks prior in order to attend a family reunion. Really cute place in a great location!

I stayed here with my cousin for a girl's trip to Falmouth/Martha's Vineyard. It's a nice little place to stay and in a great location. It's on a quiet street in a cute neighborhood, but it's close enough to easily drive (or Uber/Lyft) to Falmouth center, the ferry, etc. The shower is big and the bed is comfy. The host is really friendly/helpful and greeted me when I first arrived (she also always responded to my messages quickly). She provided us with lots of snacks, a fridge with water bottles, a microwave, etc. We had a great time, and definitely recommend this spot! If you can, take advantage of the porch out back. We forgot to do that, and it looked really peaceful! (Just a note to bring an eye mask if the light wakes you up. I forgot mine and the light shines pretty brightly into the skylight on the ceiling)

Magical Stay at the Shire

The Cupboard Atop the Stairs is a very special place. The room was nicely appointed with a comfortable bed, luxurious bedding, large fluffy towels, and many amenities that you would find in a deluxe hotel. The mini fridge and Keurig coffee maker were great to have and stylish too! The private deck was wonderful - a peaceful place to enjoy a cup of coffee and some Girl Scout cookies while looking out at the lovely garden. We truly enjoyed our stay and recommend it highly.
