"On the pro side:
- Central location with walking distance to most things (princes street gardens is 10 mins by foot, Edinburgh castle you can see from the window)
- Better than average breakfast, with options to order complimentary egg benedict, porridge etc and a well assorted buffet
- Hotel itself was ok quiet... but (read the con)
- Staff was ok, especially a guy named Alex at the breakfast tables who took orders
- Some ok restaurants in the vicinity (though not fine dining), loads of pubs of course.
- Check-in was ok, there's a self-service option too
- Bussline 2 stops just outside
Cons:
- Grassmarket square can be noisy and the less-than-great quality of windows means you hear everything on the street. World championships in football (soccer) was going on which meant busy and noisy bars (incl singing scots) until 03:00 in the morning.
- Cleanliness is so and so, was dried up urine just below/behind the toiletseat.
- Stairs up to the reception, means if got toddlers and a stroller you need to traverse these.
- Tram from airport doesn't go near hotel (you'll need to change downtown or take a taxi)
- It's family friendly 'ish.
- Bathtubs (at least in the room we stayed in) are missing anti-slip, ie be careful when entering and exiting to take a shower
- The sink in the bathroom is placed at a low height (like children's height), which is uncomfortable if you 180 cm tall (short) and was your hands or shave.
- Hotel feels a little run down."
