  • Kona Makai#1-103 is one of the best located ground floor units in the entire complex! Being 2 units away from the very west ocean end of building 1, the location is undeniably too perfect.
    This NEWLY REMODELED unit has a gorgeous upgraded kitchen & bathroom as of July 2024! The new owners have put quite a bit of love into the interior. This unit is perfect for LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION as well! Incredible value to sleep up to 4 people now with the pullout sofa!

    The amazing view is what draws renters in. Enjoy a fully equipped kitchen including even a state-of the-art digital high efficiency dishwashing unit & brand new microwave. The Bedroom has a King Sized Bed & ocean views! There is a brand new Wall AC Unit in the Living Room & the Bedroom as of July 2024! The Bathroom has a brand new Walk in Shower!

    The Kona Makai complex is a beautifully maintained & highly sought after Ocean Front Complex located on famous Alii Drive, just 1.3 miles from Kona town. This wonderful complex features and includes beautifully manicured tropical grounds, ocean front pool and spa, sunny lounge area, two work out rooms, eating area w/ gas BBQ’s, tennis courts, ping pong table, ample parking, and is gated during the night for security.

    **All Reservation Requests greater than 12 months in Advance MUST be approved in advance by the Broker In Charge. Rates are subject to change.**

    * Starting July 22nd Kona Makai will be starting the exterior painting project on Building 4.
    Currently they are estimating between 1.5 - 2 Months to complete each building for this work.
    Their current order for the painting of the buildings mentioned below with the possible affected dates.
    Building 4 7/22 - 9-22
    Building 5 9/22 - 11/22
    Building 3 11/22 - 1/22

    The painting and spalling contractor has agreed to take a break from work for Ironman and the Christmas holidays. Work will stop from October 21st-29th for Ironman. Work will stop from December 23rd- January 3rd for the Holidays
    All dates are subject to change and Knutson & Associates has no say or control in if dates are changed. Dates are given by the complex's hired painting vendor.
    The mentioned work will be affecting access to units at possible given times between the work being done on the building. Kona Makai will be sending notices of more specific dates that access will be affected between work hours. We unfortunately cannot provide any given dates for this. Other areas such as lanai access will be affected during times as well. Furthermore the AC will also not be allowed during specific times/dates when the work is going on.
    Noise and obstructed views are also to be expected between the dates mentioned.
    The contractor plans on beginning spalling repairs on building 2 on September 9th , 2024 at 8:00 am. They plan to set up a scaffold at the oceanside end of the building and they will begin work on the column supporting landings in the stairwell. As they proceed, they will be working on leading edges of lanais on both sides of the building, windowsills, walls, and stairs throughout the building. When building 2 is complete they plan on moving to building 1 and then building 6.

The best view in the area!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second time at the apartment. The renovations give it a fresh new feel yet still has its own character. Its location and proximity to the water are perfect, and I love that you can hear the waves from both sides of the apartment. We’ve already booked for next year.

You’re right on the water, with a pool and hot tub to relax in—or you can use it as a home base for adventures all over the island, which is exactly what we did. The stay was peaceful, quiet, and thoroughly enjoyable. The unit itself is charming and in great condition, with updated flooring and a cozy feel. Every morning, I walked to Green Flash Coffee and brought back some of their incredible brew to enjoy on the lanai before we set out for the day. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed our 40th wedding anniversary trip to Kona Makai 1-103 on the Big Island. Truly, the owners have done a marvelous job renovating the unit. We cooked in the unit every day and ate on the beautiful lanai as we listened to the soothing waves. The unit was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The AC units in both the living room and bedroom kept the place cool in the heat of the day. You can trust Knutson & Associates with your vacation needs. They provided stellar customer service when my wife had questions about one of the new appliances. The property was better than we expected, and we would definitely recommend this unit. Some recommendations: Hawaii Forest and Trail Maunakea Summit & Stars, Seaquest Premium Morning Snorkel, Hilo Farmers' Market, 808 Grindz, and Tuk Tuk Thai Food Truck.

Great View doesn't makeup for the poor condition of the unit

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Needed to be remodeled 25 yrs ago. Everything, and I mean everything is old, dingy, dirty, rusty, stained or just falling apart. Old lumpy twin mattresses connected together pretending to be a king bed well good luck for a good night’s sleep. Everything in this unit is poor quality. Old furniture and all housewares looked like they came from thrift shops and garage sales. Owner hasn't spent a nickel he wasn't forced to. Stove replaced-too unsafe to operate, dishwasher died, not replaced, plumbing dreadful with leaky pipes-bathroom smells like a urinal on occasions from upper floors, occasional flooding in kitchen, bathtub doesn't drain well and sewer fly infestations. Filthy stained carpet. Property manager was excellent though; when the bath tub wouldn’t drain, bringing new towels (there was only 2), a new microwave when it died and finally replacing refrigerator door shelves that were duct taped on. But just lipstick on a pig.
