Escape to Nevada City’s Round House Retreat.

This is a very special home that is private/gated, but also just a few minutes by car to Historic Downtown Nevada City.

Located just 2.5hrs from San Francisco and the Bay Area, the historic town of Nevada City (and nearby Grass Valley) delights visitors with access to the Tahoe Lake area (50min to Truckee), the Yuba River (10min), historic landmarks, great local shopping, hiking and biking trails.

The 'Round House' is fairly known by many locals as it was a formal gathering space, as a custom-built property sitting on 21 acres with views of the Sierras.

The main home has three round skylighted domes, two wings (3-beds, 2-baths on the west, and 1-bed, 1-bath plus yoga meditation room on the east), and the main 'Great Room' has 19ft-ceilings with a custom-built kitchen, fireplace and attached screen-in porch room that is perfect for family or friend gatherings.

Guests will love having a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the screened-in porch, or taking a quick respite or workout in the yoga/meditation room.

Cozy up by the wood-burning fireplace in the winter, or the hot tub on chilly nights. The pool is salt-water and solar heated, great in most seasons but on the cold days.

This property is great for low-key family gatherings, and has a fully stocked kitchen (blender, waffle maker, coffee maker, utensils, pots/pans and two dishwashers). You need to bring paper towels, ground coffee and your own tupperware.

This is NOT a party house. We belong to an HOA that has strict noise ordinances after 10pm. We also have an on-site manager. She sometimes offers massage therapy. Please inquire at booking for availability.

This is a home that we use as a family regularly, so we ask that guests be respectful of our furnishings. Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic—period.We spent a full week here with four families, and there was more than enough space for everyone to be comfortable. The layout of the living room and kitchen was perfect and became the heart of our stay, where we spent most of our time together.The huge yard was a major bonus for our kids and dogs to run and play. The hosts and manager were gracious and welcoming, and the house truly had everything we needed and more. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate the holidays.

Wonderful property for a group! The view and backyard were amazing. Comfortable rooms, clean interior and kitchen with anything you could ever need (just maybe more wine glasses). While it feels far from town, it was super close (driving) and easy to get to. Would love to stay in the summer next to take advantage of the pool.

I would give it a 4.5. The host was quick to respond. The location was absolutely breath-taking and the home was spacious and had everything we needed. Would have enjoyed spending more time in the home but we were there for a wedding and quite busy.A few problems we encountered --the internet was often down (host said they were working in the neighborhood) and our cell service was spotty in the area-there were missing blinds in the master bedroom/bath leaving you exposed if anyone was in the backyard-there were a few minor cleaning/maintenance issues but overall it was very goodWould stay again!

I rented this house for my dad’s birthday, and unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing. First of all, the AC was broken during a heatwave, and it was extremely hot inside the house. We contacted the host, but he refused to fix it, which made our stay very uncomfortable.To make things worse, someone entered the house while we were staying there, which was unsettling and felt like a serious breach of our privacy and security.Before booking, I asked the host if it was okay to celebrate a birthday, and he said it was fine. But once we arrived, he suddenly changed his mind and didn’t let us have the party. It felt like we were being misled.Overall, this was a stressful and frustrating experience — not at all what I expected or paid for. I would not recommend this place.After our stay, he said that we didn’t clean after ourselves but we did and also we paid cleaning fee, we didn’t cause any damage but he said we did damage stuff cause we complained about a lot of stuff ! I don’t recommend at all!!

Beware, no AC during summer. Amenities falsely advertised

We stayed at this property in July 2025 for 4 nights. We checked in on day that was over 90 degrees. The house was JUST as hot. We inmediately notified the on-site manager, who assured us that it takes time for the AC to work. Well, the house never got any cooler. We contacted the on-site property manager Erin and owner Gretchen multiple times about the AC. Two days into our stay, the owner sent someone to the house and he said the AC unit was totally broken and needed to be replaced. The owner then texted me saying the AC unit was broken and wouldn't be fixed until after we had left, and that she was willing to "work with me." I said, yes, I would like that. In subsequent messages to her, I also mentioned the dryer and garbage disposal didn’t work. Crickets. NO RESPONSE from her at all. VRBO has been trying to get a hold of her as well, with no success.The property is beautiful and unique, but I can't recommend a place with amenities being falsely advertised. We knew how hot Nevada City gets during the summer, and we chose this place because it was advertised as having AC. Had I known it didn’t have functioning AC, I would never have booked it! Also, the owner offered to work with me, and then disappeared! The house was sweltering the entirety of our stay and the young children who were with us were miserable. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. Book somewhere else!

Beautiful… but

Nice spacious home in a beautiful setting but needs regular maintenance: spider webs should have be cleared (perhaps we were first guests of the summer), washer broke, stove top not clean at arrival, refrigerator not empty at arrival, burned out light bulbs in two of three bathrooms and in living room, A/C didn’t cool house and not all windows opened, microwave not installed in cabinet correctly so using it was awkward, no blow dryers in home, a used towel left hanging in sun room…

Not what we were hoping for

The house is in a beautiful area and has a great layout with plenty of space, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the home itself needs quite a bit of upkeep. The furniture was visibly worn—couches were dirty and ripped, and some of the pillows were stained. There were around 15 lightbulbs out throughout the house, making it feel dim and neglected.The kitchen was also very disorganized, which made it difficult to cook or find basic items. Any time we had a question, we were told to “read the manual,” which wasn’t very helpful and didn’t address our concerns.The biggest disappointment was the pool. It was dirty when we arrived and although the pool technician came, the water never got warm enough to swim—even with sunny weather every day. It stayed around 60 degrees the entire trip.For the price per night, we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness, comfort, and communication. With some attention and care, this could be a fantastic rental, but right now it falls short.

Cool, secluded house! Great for friend/family gatherings!

The pictures almost don’t do it justice! A very cool construction with three domes (each absorbs its own sound) with a very spacious, open kitchen-living room area perfect for gatherings. We were there to celebrate Friendsgiving ( college friends celebrating 16+ years of this get together and 20 years of friendship). Now there are a lot of kids in the mix. We stayed in November. House would be even better in the summer when the pool would be more appealing, but we had a great time enjoying the amazing view and using the sun porch for kid entertainment. The kitchen has most things needed to prepare a large meal, though there were a few things like a large serving platter, baster, non-stick pans, etc. it did not have. Tons of silverware though! Enough for 25 ppl. Glassware was lacking… The beds were pretty comfy! Most vacation rentals have horrible beds. All of us agreed the beds were the best we’d experienced at a VRBO. The bathtub in the Master bathroom did have a weird rust-splattered drip situation… but we didn’t need the tub for anything, so I wasn’t too worried about it. The shower was awesome! Kids toys (as advertised) were few - especially for smaller children. There were a lot of 1,000-piece puzzles and card games. Not much for those 2-10. That said, plenty of room to run outside and use the swings and the cool swing on the sun porch. The host on-site was very nice and patient. She was cool about all of the little kids running around. Wifi is needed for service.
