The night before we were scheduled to check in I had not received any instructions from the owner on how to access the property. I sent him a message through the VRBO app and his response was "get it to you in 1 hr" He later responded back saying that "check in is at 3pm" but he still did not provide me any details on how to access the property (door code, resort info, etc" I had to ask again within just hours of our check in time and he finally gave me the door code.
Shortly after I receive a message saying the cleaning crew is running behind and asking us to check in later than the listed check in time.
Once we finally check in we noticed some immediate issues that need addressed. First of all, the cleaning crew that needed extra time did a terrible job cleaning. They didn't even take the time to put away the cleaning supplies, they were staked in the entryway, in our way. Upon inspection of the home we notice that there are absolutely zero household products (hand soap, hand towels, wash cloths, dish soap, dishwasher soap, garbage bags) all the things that come standard with VRBO are not there.
The backyard is full of trash, lights are burnt out and a couple of the beds still have dirty sheets on them.
I contact the property owner again through the app and describe the situation to him. He doesn't respond to me for hours and after a send multiple message begging him to respond. At this point, my family is disgusted in the place and we are all frantically looking for alternate lodging options. Eventually he responds and late that night he drops off some of the items on the porch. I ask him to please call me or come into the home so we can show him the issues, but he does not respond. He literally came to the property while we were there, left the items on the porch, but wouldn't check out the property issues Instead he asks me to send him photos, but the app will not allow that and he keeps saying his cleaning staff said they did a good job .... I literally have photos to show otherwise and he could have seen this himself if he wouldn't have run off.
The rugs in the home are stained with what appears to be serious pet urine and/or food, we found blankets in the closet full of stains. We had to wash all our own bedding as it was clear the cleaners did not wash it.
After we bought all the supplies, cleaned the entire property and washed all the bedding we could enjoy the rest of our stay.
