Lake Saroma, Hokkaido. Possibly one of the most random places around the world I have visited during a road trip. A frozen lake on the eastern coast of Hokkaido during winter. Away from the main towns and tourist destinations, I think I remember reading that a tourist highlight is a prison somewhere down the road….
