Downderry Beach is a popular dog friendly beach all year around. It is a sheltered beach on the south coast of Cornwall, near Looe. It's known for its long, spacious stretch of grey sand and shingle, making it a good spot for swimming, fishing, and exploring the shoreline. It features many rock pools that are exposed at low tide. This beach is a 5 minute walk from the house.
Seaton Beach which is 5 minutes from the house in the car or 15 minute walk is a dog-friendly beach all year round. It's a spacious, grey sand beach known for its family-friendly atmosphere and various facilities. Dogs are welcome on the beach throughout the year, making it a great spot for dog owners to enjoy a walk and playtime.
Downderry is located on the southern coast of Cornwall, making it a convenient base for exploring the Southwest Coast Path. It's easily accessible, with the path passing directly through the village. From Downderry, walkers can head east towards Rame Head and Kingsand/Cawsand, or west towards Looe, Seaton, and Millendreath. The path offers a mix of challenging cliff paths, woodland sections, and open fields, with views of the coastline and local landmarks. The path near Downderry passes by attractions like the Monkey Sanctuary and offers views of Whitsand Bay and Rame Head. Besides hiking, Downderry offers other attractions like Adrenalin Quarry and Millendreath Beach.
Looe, Polperro and Fowey are great places to visit with lots of shopping, restaurants and beaches. Fowey is close to the famous biomes of the amazing Eden Project and Wheal Martyn museum, which tells the story of Cornwall's China clay.
The local pub/restaurants like 'Bewshea's By the Beach' and 'The Inn on the shore' are the closest within walking distance. The adjacent village Seaton (is around a 15 minute walk or drive 5 minutes) Seaton you will find âThe beach houseâ and âSmugglers Innâ.
The Finnygook Inn in Crafthole is a 10-minute drive and the lovely villages of Cawsand and Kingsand are a 20-minute drive.
In Hessenford, just outside Seaton we have âThe Copley Arms.
Looe is around a 20-minute drive and this village is packed with shops, restaurants, boating and childrenâs activities.
