The property did not meet expectations. The living room had limited seating and no lighting. The patio door screen and lock were broken. The bedrooms had king beds but no storage space. The kitchen was not equipped for cooking. The outdoor furniture was old and unclean. Despite these issues, the owner was responsive and communicated promptly. Overall, the stay was not comfortable, but with some improvements, the property could be nice

Good location, a little dirty/run down

The floors were not clean and had a lot of dirt on them, also the back patio sliding door didn’t lock at all.. other than that the beds were pretty comfy and the location was great.

Barer than bare bones

The best part of this place is the beds-- they are super comfy and nicely made. The location is pretty good, too. However, we were there for business and there was not a single clothes hanger (or any place for clothes) to be found. We called the owner/mgr and they didn't get back to us until the next day. They said "there should be hangers, if not you can go buy some and we'll reimburse you." Are you kidding me? The windows and sliders are old, and hard to open and close. The blind wands were broken. There is no AC and yes you need it if it's a hot day-- there were fans but it was hot upon arrival and took forever to cool down. The kitchen is super bare and they need a more comfortable couch, etc. Okay for the money, just know what you can expect!

Perfect for a quick stay

We were in California for Ohana Fest but also visiting some family in Carlsbad. Was perfect for two nights. Good location. Near Von’s and PCH spots. Comfy sleeping too.

Very basic rental in disrepair

The good: the host was communicative, and allowed us to stay an extra hour our last day. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked enough to cook meals. The yard was spacious for my dog. The price is lower than other rentals in Encinitas. The not so good: The home is in disrepair, with uneven flooring and trim falling off, moldy grout, and sliding doors that do not lock securely (there is a screw in the bottom of the doors that's supposed to lock them, but it's not aligned properly and if you give it just a little force they open). I was obligated to purchase a non-refundable $80 damage protection plan after I booked; despite this, when apparently the host found a stain on a bed sheet after our stay (?), she sent me a note indicating that she threw out the sheet and a bill through VRBO to replace it. What was the "damage protection plan" for? Lastly, the VRBO advertisement indicates a hot tub, which did not exist.

Surf Shack Retreat

The house is located in a walkable but mixed neighborhood. Just avoid the streets during morning drop offs for school and afternoon pickups because you can barely move if you’re in a car. The house is pretty basic with a bare bones kitchen and tiny table with 2 chairs. It was difficult to cook due to the small size and lack of basic cooking tools. The shower is good. For more than 2 people it would have been too crowded.

Great stay

The property is dedicated parking, which is very nice. As simple the property is very clean. The host is very easy to communicate with. My only suggestion would be adding a coffee table to the living room.

Great stay!

My brother and I stayed here while visiting family because we needed some extra space. Communication was very smooth, the place is clean and nicely decorated. Great location and would definitely stay again and recommend to others!
