Founded in 1123 and once the second wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in the country second only to Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire. Quaint hotel within close distance to Manchester. Nice location and friendly staff. Perfect for plane spotters but the rooms are extremely well isolated. The rooms are nicely decorated (the Tower Suite is my opinion not worth the extra charge - lots of stairs and no extra view). The big setback is the cleaning (lots of small flies, spilled liquids from previous guests, etc) and the feeling that they aren’t splashing guests with extras (probably covid effect). But again, wonderful location and really friendly staff makes up for it.
