"Weâve stayed here before, and the room was fine as usual. Itâs small, but as described, so no surprise there. (The interior decoration of the rooms is nicer than at the main Monterey nearby, which has more of a boring business hotel feeling.)
However, there was one big letdown compared to previous stays and thatâs the breakfast. Itâs pricey but we prepaid because we thought we knew what weâd get. The great buffet over at the main Monterey one block away used to be included, and the a la carte at LaSoeur used to be absolutely fine as well, with a few different selections. However, without warning theyâve changed it to some weird supposedly âhealthyâ, mostly vegan concept with a lot of processed meat substitutes, a vegan brownie and cooked food that frankly tasted like airplane food. We didnât want to eat any of it except the fruit. Most items were the same every day with no selections. There was a tiny continental breakfast style buffet included with some youghurt, scrambled eggs, bread and jam, but it would feel rude to only eat from that and definitely not worth the price. The service at breakfast was also a bit unprofessional at times.
If youâre staying here, buy your own breakfast and eat in the room. Thereâs an electric kettle but no tea bags so you need to bring your own. Thereâs a new coffee machine which also has tea pods if youâre desperate."

"We have stayed at this hotels 6 times since its opening ca 8 ys ago.
This stay was utterly disappointing.
The room we were assigned "welcomed" us with a revolting blend of foul smells: damp/mold & sewage odours in the bathroom, and a smelly carpet.
Upon our request we were reassigned to a different room which had the same foul smell in the bathroom and a slightly less unpleasant smell in the bedroom.
Furnishings in both rooms were well worn, some were stained.
Not much in the way of an apology was offered. The receptionist shared, instead, that the hotel has had smell issues and that renovations are on the way.
The breakfast room personnel was unfriendly and unmotivated, very unlike any of the other places we have stayed in Japan over the years.
This place has decayed from what used to be a real Ginza gem in their early years of operation to an overpriced, poorly maintained tourist-trap.
