This was the final family vacation before our oldest kid headed to college and we wanted to do something special. We decided to spend a bit more than usual and get a place on the water. This place is exactly that, it's location is amazing, especially if you're like me and surf, as you're right at a great break (lefts and rights). We loved the seclusion and quiet of Rodanthe, too. With that said, there was a lot about the house that didn't seem commensurate with the premium price. Maybe I was a bit more aware of some of these items given our budget-stretching, but there were some items that I thought deserved pointing out. In no particular order:
- No ice maker or filtered water in the fridge.
- No garbage disposal in the sink. We love to cook, this was a big nuisance.
- Loose deck boards and rusted deck screws. Wear shoes on the deck (but oh, what a deck!!!)
- Screened-in porch is missing a screen and is sparsely furnished with cheap, plastic chairs and a table. You're not really able to be comfortable out there.
- There is no master BR with its own bathroom, only one Queen BR with a jack-and-jill bath and another Queen BR with a separate, shared bathroom.
- Only the main floor family room and kitchen is updated. The first floor, where all the bedrooms are, is very dated but certainly adequate.
- The house sways in the wind. Maybe this is normal for houses on stilts but I did inquire to our neighbors, also renting, and no one mentioned their house moved.
