Denna vackra 3 sovrum 1 bad miljövänliga off-grid hem byggdes på ett gammalt lavaflöde av 3 lastcontainrar. Men när du stannar i det här hemmet har du ingen aning om att du var inne i tidigare lastcontainrar. Den byggdes med kvalitet och funktion i åtanke. Det finns 3 skjutdörrar för en otrolig vind och utsikt över havet och det gamla lava landskapet. Och ut på baksidan stora fönster en utsikt över Kīlauea Volcano.
Fastigheten består av 2 bostäder den andra är en 1 sovrum 1 bad också tillgänglig för uthyrning som sover 4 (se min andra notering)

Denna vackra fraktbehållare Hem byggdes på ett gammalt lavaflöde. Det har en klar havsutsikt, en vidsträckt utsikt över Kīlauea-vulkanen på baksidan, det är miljövänligt på så många sätt, off-gridverktyg (solkraft och UV-filtrerat vattenavlopp), omgivet av fantastiskt lava landskap, awe inspirerande natthimlen fylld med fler stjärnor än vad du någonsin sett tidigare.

Hemmet har så många coola funktioner. Typiskt om du någonsin varit i ett "Tiny eller Container Home" finns det inget rymligt om dem men genom effektiv design tycker jag att detta uppnåddes så snart du steg in du hälsas med en öppen känsla 16 "vid 16" rum. De första intressanta möblerna är matbordet och stolarna som återvunnits från en gammal Teak träbåt. Sedan finns det den högfunktionella soffan och ottomanen som inte bara lyfter upp för att ge förvaring, utan omvandlas också till en king size-säng. Du kommer också att dras till det utsökta mangoträet som användes för bänkskivorna i köket och badet. När du väl ser golvbadet på stenstenen kommer du igen att bli förvånad över storleken. Inuti hittar du en av ett slag Förstörd träfartygssänk sitter på en stor bit mango med en naturlig levande spetsig spegel. Som du ser i bilderna får du njuta av en regndusch i det stora duschkabinettet. Välj sedan vilket sovrum som helst och du hittar en plattformsbädd som ger mening att det är flytande som var anpassade av en lokal Hawaiian. Du kommer att hitta detta hem byggdes på en så unik och lugn plats som du kanske inte vill lämna.

Gud har välsignat mig med denna plats så jag kan dela den med andra. Oavsett om du vill vara turist och se alla fantastiska platser eller bara vara i fred med dig själv och naturen är det här platsen för dig.
Det finns inga Coqui-grodor för att hålla dig vaken på natten här.

Awesome stay

Living off grid is easy in this place. Bedrooms were just right and having laundry access while traveling was a plus, and the sun quickly dried everything so we didn’t need the dryer. Recommend you stop at Hot Foot Photography on the road in. A sign out front that says Lava Flow Info marks the driveway. Gary will tell you the history of the Kilauea lava flows and has photos from the lava flows that covered the area. He lost his house in 2010 and rebuilt in 2014. Super nice guy.We made the lava walk to the ocean and it was fantastic, just don’t get to close to the edge, as the lava continues to crumble into the ocean. You can see lava arches to the left where the ocean meets the lava cliffs.We were lucky enough to see Kilauea erupt during our stay, it takes about an hour to get to Volcano Park, and it’s worth it.Enjoy your stay, we sure did.

Wow! That’s a house on lava.

This house is out there. If you are curious about what living off grid would be like, this is a chance to experiment. The walk out to the cliff to see the ocean was amazing. We were able to explore Volcanoes NP from here and the surrounding towns. The night sky is amazing.

Fabulous Experience

Staying on an old lava flow cannot be beat! The location is fabulous. Highly advise you to arrive while still light. The hike to the sea cliff was my favorite part of a 2 week island hopping adventure. The host communicated very well and was quick to respond and very helpful guiding us to good restaurants etc before we checked in.

Unique location

We stayed with our kids (6,8) for 4 nights. We deliberately chose this location as we visited this region in 2009 when the Kilauea lava was flowing. To stay on top of the old lava flow was a special feature to show the kids. The location is very remote, the next shops a 15min drive away. A few more houses have been set up around the property, meaning we never had an encounter with the ‘grumpy neighbour’. The path over the lava field is quite easy to follow and was an interesting activity for the kids. The house had everything we needed and was nicely decorated. We didnt have any issues with water or electricity supply, the second unit was vacant during our stay. We didnt mind the 2 hour drive to/from the west coast, at times meaning to arrive back in the house at midnight but that’s something to consider when planning activities around the island. We’d happily stay at this truly unique home on the lava again.

Very cool home!

This unique shipping container home on a lava field was an unforgettable experience! While the surrounding neighborhood lacked privacy & was not completely dark at night for optimal stargazing, the overall stay was still enjoyable & worthy of 5 stars for its originality & cool factor.

Unlike anything else.

What a unique spot! When are you ever going to hang out in a lava field? We came to the big island in part to see the volcanoes and this was a huge part of the experience! Just as interesting as anything you will see at VNP. Walk down to the cliffs for the true experience. The house is fairly basic but it is clean and had everything we needed and enough space for two teens and parents. We managed to find it even in the dark. Amazing sunrises and rainbows. Would recommend since the location is so unusual.

Pleasant Stay

The experience of staying on an old lava flow was very interesting. You will get a better feeling for the area if you spend some time reading about the lava flows in the Big Island. Be very careful if you decide to walk on the old lava flow, and do not get close to the edge of the cliffs. The home was simple, functional and pleasant. But, I think the pictures on the site have to be updated as there is more wear-and-tear than shown in the pictures.

Unique and out of this world stay

This “house on the lava” is truly a fabulous experience! You and the stars and the lava rock can enjoy companionship! Our adult kids loved it. Photos on web site are true . outdoor photos cannot describe the lava setting. Super unique ! Bring your own drinking water. Everything else provided. We really enjoyed it!

An amazingly unique experience with some caveats

There is so much to love about this space. It is well laid out. The shower and bathroom are beautifully done with a great rain shower. The space is very unique and the surrounding lava flow is absolutely breathtaking to be on. Communication about how to get out to the ocean across the lava is well communicated and poles and planted palm trees delineate a clear path to take. The satellite internet works flawlessly and fast. The television seems to have infinite options with every streaming service available. However, now for some caveats: 1. This space can sleep up to 8 people, but that is very much where the support for 8 people ends. There are only 3 chairs for the table and maybe room for 3 people to sit on the tiny little couch. 2. The hot water heater is located near the main bedroom. While you should limit your hot water usage at night, there is another unit next door and all utilities are shared between the 2 units. If your neighbors are up at 4AM taking their showers, you will not be sleeping with the hot water heater boiling away feet from your pillow. If your neighbors decide to suck up all the power or water and it runs out, even though you were very sparing, tough luck. 3. The pictures may have been accurate long ago, but the surfaces inside have not held up well in the ocean air. 4. While the listing clearly shows a dryer, upon reading the guest rule book, guests are not allowed to use the dryer except for long stays. 5. This space is a long way from civilization.

Unique experience

The property is well kept and we had a great time while there. The host was responsive when we had questions about the TV. The extra bedrooms sliding screen door was warped a little so it didn't close tightly so we did not keep that door open so as to minimize any bugs being able to get in. There were some food items already onsite (condiments, spices, etc.) that would have been nice to know before we got there so we didn't have to purchase them so I would recommend pictures be taken ahead of check in and sent to the next renter so they know what is already there. The walk to the cliff is definitely farther than you expect but worth it. In order to stay on the property line, the white arrows should be repainted as they were very hard to see in some areas. We arrived after sunset and it was difficult to find the property, even with the detailed directions provided. I suggest putting something at the end of the driveway that can be referenced to better find the place and not pass it as it is set back from the road and easy to miss in the dark.

Unique setting!

Really fun place to stay! accommodation was as expected. Amazing night sky and very interesting lava formations. Small suggestion - it would ben helpful to have information about if the tap water is drinkable or not. We didn't bring bottled water and probably should have.

Great memories

This place is great. You're far away from the nearest town yet can get there quickly. Night times are magical for star gazing. You have wifi, so you can make calls and text messages, and navigation works fine out there. We were a family of 8 that stayed for 9 nights and all felt comfortable in the space. It's off the grid but we didnt have any issues with water, power, or gas for cooking( and we washed clothes and cooked every day). It's a great home and our little ones love telling their frends the story of living on the lava flow.

Nice stay on the lava field

All in all, a lovely stay in a peaceful setting. Bit strange description of the "grumpy neighbor"; we did not see him so no comments from our side. The house was clean and fully equipped. In the dark this house is difficult to find though. Hike to the lava cliffs is very nice though!
