False Fire Alarms, Slept In Car, No Rent Refund
The first night of our stay, the smoke detectors false alarmed throughout the night, each alarm lasting 15-30 minutes. On the first alarm around midnight, our family rushed out onto the snowy sidewalk without boots or coats. The next alarm, we took our boots and coats. On the final alarm (that we know of) around 3am, we took car keys and let our young kids sleep the rest of the night in the car. We spoke with the owner/manager the following morning and were told that no refund of rent could be given due to false fire alarms, but they could refund our cleaning fee, which amounted to a 1% discount on the stay. Skiing the next day completely frustrated and exhausted was not worth a 1% discount. Despite the rest of the condo being refurbished, the smoke detectors looked very old (yellowed plastic that used to be white), so I requested that they be replaced, but was told that they would only be cleaned and be given new batteries instead. We talked to the guests staying upstairs from us in the 4-plex the next day and while they heard our alarms going off, their alarms did not go off, which is scary from a fire safety perspective… that one unit could have a fire and the other units not be alerted. The remainder of our stay was alarm free (probably due to the dust being removed from the old smoke detectors), but the level of anxiety each night before bed remained high and continued to impact our stay. Overall, I would not recommend this property or the owner/management company (SkyRun).
