Excellent hotel

I could write a story about this hotel but I would not be able to do it justice. From the outside it looks unassuming but when you get inside, it is an absolute gem. The staff are fantastic, the rooms and communal areas are spotlessly clean and the breakfast, well probably, the best breakfast I have eaten. I would also recommend dinner, which was an excellent experience. Prior to our stay and cancellation date, we received a call from the manager to inform us of a wedding taking place on the Saturday and would understand if we wanted to cancel. We thought that was a nice touch. We did get ear plugs, just in case, but we did not need them as we heard nothing. Overall, an excellent rounded hotel and if we visit Kirkcudbright again, we will be staying here again!!!!

Enjoyable 3 night weekend break

Generally very happy with hotel & stay. Staff extremely friendly & welcoming, proprietor genial and very helpful with coastal walk recommendation. Standard bedrooms are a little tired and their lighting is poor, so would definitely be worth upgrading to refurbished rooms if available. Wedding on Saturday night meant there was no option to dine in hotel which was disappointing. There were not many alternative restaurants available in Kirkcudbright. Even if a bar snack menu had been made available to residents in the lounge or Wee Bar then it would have been appreciated, especially as some residents were wedding guests in any case. The food and breakfasts were very good and the lounge area very pleasant. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

The loft bedroom should be single occupancy

Climbing the narrow stairs to the loft is not easy with luggage. The en-suite is so tiny it is very difficult to shower or use the loo. The room is too small for a couple who are on the road for several weeks.

Lovely hotel and fabulous staff!

Lovely stay at The Selkirk. Dining room and bars especially nicely finished, comfortable and clean. Delicious food served by efficient and friendly staff. The room at the top of the building was rather small with tiny bathroom, and, due to the pandemic, unfortunately couldn’t be serviced. On the whole we had a lovely 3 days, and all the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Hope to return at some stage.

Selkirk Arms memories.

Our recent 4 day stay was all that we had hoped for given past reviews. The very efficient, friendly and professional service from the owner was reflected by the staff in all areas of the hotel. What was particularly impressive was the high standard and quality of the food both at breakfast and dinner. Based upon this and with enough to see and do in Kirkcudbright as well as in the surrounding area we'll return one day.

Clean, responsible and prepared

Great hotel in a beautiful town. The Selkirk is taking their responsibilities around covid-19 very seriously and it shows. There was excellent signage, clear messaging and I had no worries at all staying there.

Excellent place

A very pleasant stay. Chris was exceptionally friendly and had good pizza skills! All the staff were very nice. The beer garden is lovely. The hotel ticked almost all the boxes including a very good breakfast. The only disappointment was the room which I was anticipating being more plush

Brilliant stay

The hotel was lovely with friendly staff, great food for both breakfast and dinner. The town is a very nice town to visit. The hotel staff were very hygiene conscious in the restaurant etc.
